At the Bar

How Italian bars work:
In Italy, a bar is not just for alcohol — it is the place for coffee, pastries, snacks, and soft drinks. It is the heartbeat of daily life!
  • Standing at the counter (al banco): Cheaper, fast, how locals do it.
  • Sitting at a table (al tavolo): More expensive — you pay extra for service and space. Prices are always shown twice on the menu.
☕ IMPORTANT CULTURE RULE: Cappuccino, Caffè Latte, Latte Macchiato are **only for the morning** (until ~11:00–12:00). Never order them after a meal — Italians drink espresso only after eating!
