How to build numbers 21—99
Just add the unit
To make any number, just combine the ten with the unit. No extra words needed — it’s simpler than English!
trenta + due = trentadue (32) · cinquanta + sei = cinquantasei (56)
Drop the final vowel before 1 and 8
When adding uno (1) or otto (8), drop the final vowel of the ten’s place to avoid two vowels clashing.
venti + uno = ventuno (21) · trenta + otto = trentotto (38) · quaranta + uno = quarantuno (41)
Numbers ending in 3 get an accent
When tre (3) is added to a ten, it becomes tré and takes an accent on the e.
